How did you find about madeit?
From a very helpful customer! She told us all her friends shop on madeit because they love buying handmade and supporting Australian artists and crafts people.

Explain your style
Sea glass connects us to our towns past; it is a little piece of history found in the sand that has been reshaped by the forces of nature. It used to be something else, belong to someone and could have arrived on the Mornington Peninsula a long time ago. We like to showcase the sea glass we find in our art, jewellery and home décor designs. It gives new life to something that was tossed away, in many cases over 100 years ago! We are inspired by everything we love about life on the Mornington Peninsula, especially the incredible marine life.

What makes you happy?
Simple things like beachcombing with our family, spotting a pod of dolphins, watching our son’s excitement when he has found a shark egg in a rockpool or when our daughter is sure she caught glimpse of a mermaid… It also makes us happy that we have found a shared passion. This is something we can work on together and the kids and even our parents help look for sea glass. We also have a legion of little beachcombers- children of friends who excitedly share their treasure bags!

What makes you sad?
It would be people with influence in our community who can’t see the natural beauty of all that is around them and the importance of preserving it for future generations. We donate a percentage of our Marine Collection sales to the Dolphin Research Institute as they do an amazing work to give Victoria’s marine treasures a voice.

What can't you live without?
Looking for that next really, really rare shard of sea glass…it is addictive!

Tell us a little bit about your store (where is it)
This little pink shop is the first franchise of in.cube8r in fitzroy - it's located on Wickham st in fortitude valley, just down from the brunswick street mall, and right opposite the post office. All our signage is now up, so you can't miss us!!! We have 90 australian artists under one roof, and are the place for emerging artists to "test the retail market"

when/why did you open your store?
I was introduced to in.cube8r by an old friend on a weekend trip to Melbourne in January this year - and from the moment I walked into the store I knew I was in trouble!! As an artist i thought I'd love a cube, but as a passionate supporter of all artists, I knew Brisbane would benefit from having their very own in.cube8r. It was less than 4 months from the first visit to me opening my own store - twas a busy and frantic time in my life to say the least!



What labels designers do you stock in your store?
I stock nearly 90 different artists in the store, so narrowing it down to a few is too hard!! Instead I'll say that we stock artists specialising in clothing, bags, artworks, jewellery, pottery, ceramics, clutches, toys & magnets, just to name a few!!

Why do you love handmade so much?
Because things made by the hand come from the heart, not a machine

Saturday 20th Melbourne Modish Market

If you enjoy a great craft market and love supporting local handmade products, then you will want to visit this handmade lifestyle market. On Saturday at Malvern Town Hall, Modish Creators Market will be featuring over 70 of Melbourne’s talented handmade designers and artists, retailing fashion and accessories, homewares and giftware, art and stationery, gourmet food and much more.

Modish and it’s stallholders are supporters of the Cancer Council Victoria. There will be a big Christmas Hamper Raffle at the market filled with lots of beautiful handmade products donated by our stallholders, and all of the proceeds raised will go to this great cause.

Modish Creators Market is located at
Malvern Town Hall,
Corner of High Street and Glenferrie Road, Malvern
