Tell us a bit about yourself

I come from a family of artists: my grandmother painted landscapes before taking up pottery at the age of 90 and my mother created minutely detailed line drawings and textile art.
I tried many mediums before I found clay...but then I was hooked.

How did you find about carftumi?

I was selling my ceramics on Madeit when I came across Craftumi and saw it as an opoortunity to enjoy making tiles without the slog of using them in my own mosaics. Now I can try out every new idea and not feel guilty for wasting my firing time on it! (Like my buttons)

What do you sell on craftumi?
I started making my own tiles when I went back to pottery after having my two children. It was very relaxing for my sleep-addled brain and remained a great meditation as life gained speed.

What is your favourite craft activity?

I love re-using beautiful or interesting objects in my art. I set myself the challenge to reuse and recycle my finds into something more beautiful than the original...all mixed with my ceramic pieces. It’s really great fun!

What would be your perfect day?

My perfect day begins with a quiet cup of tea. I visit the National Gallery of Victoria before lunch and a sketching expedition with my kids to the Melbourne Museum. Back at home my husband cooks me dinner while I have an hour in the studio and the kids put themselves to bed on time. Then I have another cup of tea.

How did you find about madeit?
I found out about madeit through online shopping for interesting and handmade products. Its quite inspiring to see what other creatives are
up to!

Explain your style
My style is elegant, whimsical and a little bit crazy! I illustrate and then transfer my works onto porcelain. Its quite a process but highly rewarding as each piece has to go through 3 firing cycles in my kiln 'wonder woman'. I try to add some humour to my work, mainly my home wares range. My jewellery is more elegant I think.

What makes you happy?
My family and friends make me happy. Coming up with new ideas is always uplifting and being able to do what I love. My 2 year old daughter is the light of my life and puts a smile on my face.

What makes you sad?
The passing of my Uncle Russ last year. He was a huge influence in my life and I'm still pretty lost without him here. I miss his humour and wisdom. People that are nasty also don't go down too well.

What can't you live without?
I cant live without my kiln! Does that sound weird?! I also cant live without my family, friends, porcelain and a good cuppa.

Tell us a bit about yourself

I live in Goonellabah located on the Far North Coast NSW with my husband Scott and 2 daughters Ava 5 and Lahni 3.

I grew up in the ‘crafty world’, with my mother owning a local fabric store, she has been doing the most exquisite heirloom sewing for porcelain dolls for around 30 years. She taught me to sew and I attended many a doll and bear show with her being a trader. I soon developed a passion for sewing and an appreciation of quality handmade items.

How did you find about craftumi?
I found craftumi though madeit where I also have a store called FlossyBloss selling handmade clothing and accessories. I thought it was fantastic to have a sister site to be able to showcase my love of fabric and sell these stunning pieces.

What do you sell on craftumi?
I sell quality designer fabric that is cute, quirky and fun, I love each and every piece of fabric that I sell so it is very hard to part with any of it. I purchase the fabric in bulk and use some in my sewing, this way I can also sell the fabric at a reasonable price.

My passion for stunning fabric is leading me to expand my fabric supplies and I will continually grow the Fabric Pixie business.

What is your favourite craft activity?
Sewing! After having my two girls I did not sew for the last 5 years.
Once I started back again only recently I realised how relaxing and therapeutic sewing is to me, I am creating patterns from scratch and it gives me such a buzz to reach a successful finished product.

My two girls also love to craft, they have their own craft supplies, and have already had their turn at machine sewing, I can see this wonderful talent blossoming into another generation!

What would be your perfect day?
I would love to say to send me away to a secluded cabin just me and my sewing machine but I love my family so dearly.......... I would like to bring them along too!

How did you find about madeit?

Through an advert in Frankie magazine. I was keen to set up a storefront as I like the idea that Madeit is an Australian owned website that supports fellow Australian designers and makers.

Explain your style
I find inspiration from a variety of different things so my style can be eclectic at times! I love vintage children's books illustrations and am always adding to my collection of them, I often flick through them to find inspiration for my embroidered designs. Also, I am a 'bird lady' so am always inspired by my own birds as well as books with beautiful coloured plates of vintage ornithological drawings such as Audubon.

What makes you happy?
So many things!! I am happiest sitting on my couch with my three cockatiels whilst watching a movie and working on my latest embroidered piece. I also love warm evenings on the porch drinking Pimms with my husband; finding op-shop treasures and adding to my ever growing vintage tea pot collection; buying a new flavored tea from my favorite tea shop in the city; setting up the market stall and spending the day with my good friend Audrey Dynamite and meeting new customers; watching a good film; listening to music; hanging out with my friends. The list is endless....

What makes you sad?
Being far away from my family and friends in the UK. I love my life in Australia but there have been family events both good and bad that I have not been a part of which can be really tough

What can't you live without?
The husband who always makes me my morning cup of tea!! My birds, making things, op-shopping, chocolate, tea, good music and movies.
