Partnership : the market {Hobart} & madeit

Madeit welcomes a new partnership with the market {Hobart} - together we will promote Australian handmade. Yay!

Tell us a little bit about your market?

the market is a boutique art and design event, held seasonally in the intriguing Masonic Temple. As designers and makers ourselves we understood first-hand the need for a high integrity market, where up-and-coming Tasmanian artists, designers and makers can get the right sort of exposure.

We're passionate about showcasing the abundance of talent tucked away in Tasmania, while also providing a platform for existing and emerging artists and designers to sell their wares. the market is constantly evolving, hosting a new batch of stall holders each market. This means the products on offer are always new, exciting and forever changing.

the market features unique jewellery and accessories, bags, limited run stationery, art and photography, home wares, clothing, linen and innovative lighting products. Also, perfect little presents like delicious jams, homemade muesli and award winning fudge.

With the market well and truly established, locals now have a lovely seasonal market to attend, and visitors to Hobart can head to the market knowing that what’s on offer is a snapshot of the vibrant art and design scene in Tasmania.

When/why did you start your market?
the market was started in April 2009, as we felt Tasmania was in desperate need of an art and design market, which would attract a high calibre of designers and makers, and at the same time, provide a regular event attracting locals to shop locally.

What is the favourite part about running your market?
Market day of course! Being blown away by the beautiful stalls and seeing products and designers only previously seen on our application form, in context, so to speak. Also unearthing new up and coming talent and seeing them super happy after their products have been well received by customers.

Why do you love handmade so much?
We love how handmade objects are set apart in a marketplace full of mass production, and faceless design. We love that handmade connects designer to shopper, maker to buyer. And last but not least, we love that handmade showcases true talent and creative spark at its very best!

Name 5 reason why visitors should attend your market?
Art, design, food, local, seasonal.

The next market date is Sunday 15th May, for more information visit
