ReplyDeletePierre Cardin Dress
A couple of years ago I was in a Salvos store, and I found this fantastic pair of kitten heel shoes that are covered with sequins sewn on to a dark brown fabric, for a grand total of $12 - people have been asking ever since where I got them. Fantastic find!

ReplyDeleteohh I have so many great finds op shopping. I adore it. Recently my favorite was for my 2 step sons who love love books. At our local Vinnie's and Salvos I managed to grab the entire comic book series of Jackie Chang a bargain at $5, a whole series of science books and magazines $4 and some great goose bumps novels $1 each. Our bookshelves are over flowing with great op shop reads.
ReplyDeleteMine would have to be buttons. In a local op-shop I asked if they had any buttons. To my surprise/delight I was handed a huge white bucket full of fantastic buttons. And the price was even better, 1 cent or less per button!
ReplyDeleteI just got the exact doona cover replacement for our vintage one that has been ripped and in need of replacement...I was very excited...
ReplyDeleteThe best find I have made was a gorgeous suitcase from the '20's in fabulous condition for $15, its a great decorative piece in my house.
ReplyDeleteSo hard to choose my best! I guess a late 1970s full length velvet dress in my size for $5. *tingle* I collect frogs too, and most of my collection is from op-shops - so much fun to frog hunt!
ReplyDeleteMy best find was one Saturday morning at a 'junk' shed. My parents were looking for second hand building materials when I spied four rusty chairs among the piles.
ReplyDeleteThough they needed a little work, they reminded me of some of the outdoor settings on old 60's tv shows. It wasn't until later when a cupboard was moved so my parents could get at some old iron that I spied a matching table, complete with glass top. We purchased the set for $70 and took it home. Later when we took it to the sandblasters to be repainted, we were informed that the setting had an added charm: It was handmade! The roses and vine settings had been made using brass. It must have taken so much skill to create such a piece and was probably made by a loving husband for his wife...or I like to think so anyway!
My best op-shop find was two beautiful hardcover early editions of the gorgeous Australian classics, 'The Magic Pudding' and 'Ginger Megs,' complete with original dust jackets. I was so excited!
ReplyDelete1974 Galen Planet of the Apes doll, velvet pants, a handy dandy notebook w/ crayon & wooden clogs
ReplyDeleteMy best find was a handmade formal dress by a local designer. It was made of a gorgeous blue and green silky fabric and fitted perfectly, with its original price tag still on. Best part? I paid $7 for a dress that originally cost $300!
ReplyDeleteFound a box full of noritake dinnerware for $12. Love the old fashioned soup cups with two handles!!
ReplyDeleteI adore op shopping, and when I became engaged, I knew that if I went looking, I could probably find my wedding dress. Only a few trips and there hanging was my beautiful bright red (brand new with the $300 tag from the shop attached) floaty silk dress that was just perfect...for $25. My bright red heels that I wore with it cost $1 from another op shop....and yet I felt like a million dollars on the day.
ReplyDeleteI love op shopping and have past down this love to my daughters, in fact my eldest daughter is an even bigger op shopper than me now. We have found so many treasures over the years it is hard to name the best. My most recent good finds were some Mary Quant sunglasses which still look awesome today and my husband picked up some flat panel speakers from the seventies which are covered in their original hippie material...they also give off great sound. Happy op shopping everybody may you find lots of treasures.

ReplyDeletemy absolute fav op-shop find is my 1956 vintage singer 201p. it was only $30 and it works like such a dream, and has taken over from my early 90's janome. i often think of what it must have seen, heard, and sewn over the years ;)

My best find is a white jar from Salvo's that is exactly the same as the jar my partner's Mum had for brown sugar when he was growing up in England. So of course, we use it for brown sugar.
