Tell us a bit about yourself?
I am a mum of two little boys, 2yrs and 4 months. I have lived in Brisbane for the past ten years but grew up in the Queensland country. I moved to Brisbane when I finished high school and studied Graphic Design and then Fine Art. My major was printmaking and I also did some sculpture, intermedia and silversmithing.

Can you explain your craft/art and the materials you like to use?
I make jewellery mainly from plastic buttons. In the world of mass production and consumerism I feel that fashion is very disposable and jewellery doesn't necessarily need to be made from 'precious' materials. I love using buttons as they are an item that is so often overlooked.

How long have you been creating and how did you get into making handmade goodies?
I starting making jewellery about 7 years ago, just basic necklaces and earrings. This very quickly became a passion for me. I started working with buttons after finding a little bag of brightly coloured buttons in my sewing box. I thought to myself 'I wonder if I could make something from these?' and that is how the very first button necklace began. I got so many lovely comments on this necklace that I thought I was on to a good thing and began making more.

How do you juggle motherhood & crafting/managing your business?
It is hard but you just have to take the time when you can. After having my second child I no longer get any time through the day to make and create. Now I am staying up later and my creative time happens when the boys are asleep in bed. I also take advantage of my husband's days off to get things made.

Do you have any advice to other Mothers who are wanting to start creating handmade goodies?
You have to have a passion for it, that way you will be driven to create. Don't stress about getting things done, just take the time when you can and take advantage of your husband, partner or friends and family who don't mind looking after the kids for you.
